The Yellow-mantled Weaver is distributed from Sierra Leone in West Africa to Uganda. It is found in mature lowland forest and forest edges usually in middle or upper levels.

Yellow-mantled Weaver, Kakum National Park, Ghana, May 2011 - click for larger image The head and upper parts are black with a bright yellow patch on the mantle. The breast and belly are dark chestnut. Photo 3 shows a juvenile bird and I have to admit that it took some time to identify its distinctive plumage.
