Some authorities treat this species as a sub-species of Stripe-throated Jery N. striatigula and the photo is not good enough to make out the distinguishing features. However, Stripe-throated Jery is absent from dry forest so I have assumed this is Subdesert Jery perched as it is in spiny forest.

The Subdesert Jery is distributed in the drier south and south-west of Madagascar. See the distribution map at Birdlife International.
