Previously considered a race of the Common Ostrich S. camelus, most authorities now consider the Somali Ostrich to be a species. This is on the basis of the grey-blue neck and legs, the deeper black plumage, the paler eye and the barer crown. It is distributed in Ethiopia, Djibouti, Somalia and Kenya.
