The Silvery-cheeked Hornbill is distributed in eastern Africa from Ethiopia to Mozambique. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in both montane and coastal forests and woodlands.

The male has a very large casque with blue-black skin around the eye. The female has a smaller casque and pink skin around the eye. Although not always noticeable the English name comes from the silvery-grey feathering on the face.
