The Sedge Warbler breeds in Europe and western Asia but the entire population migrates over winter to Africa south of the Sahara. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. Birds seen in Ethiopia are either on passage further south or are overwintering. They can be seen in Ethiopia from September to May.
