Reichenow's Seedeater is distributed in east Africa from Ethiopia to Tanzania. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in open woodland and dry bush country up to about 2,400 metres.

It is a small streaked seedeater with a yellow rump which can be difficult to see except in flight. It also has a whitish throat, broad whitish superciliaries and a bicoloured bill.

Dr Anton Reichenow (1847-1941) was a leading German ornithologist and expert on African birds.
