The Pale-eyed Black Tit is distributed in a broad band south of the Sahara from Senegal to Ethiopia and Kenya. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in open woodland, grassland and thorn scrub.

It is distinguished from congeners by its pale eye.
