Ethiopia and Madagascar

The Namaqua Dove is distributed in the Middle East and in Africa south of the Sahara. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in open areas such as savanna, grassland with bushes and agricultural land.

Namaqua Dove, Mosa Park, Ifaty, Madagascar, November 2016 - click for larger image There are two sub-species. The nominate is found throughout most of its range while the smaller and darker O. c. aliena, seen here in photo 2, is restricted to the south and west of Madagascar.
