Ethiopia and Madagascar

Most of the population is to be found in the Rift Valley of East Africa with disjunct populations in and around South Africa, in Mauritania and Senegal and in north-west India and Pakistan. There are, however, mass migrations when local conditions at a lake become unsuitable. See the distribution map at Birdlife International.
