Ethiopia and Madagascar The Hottentot Teal is distributed in Africa From Ethiopia to South Africa and Madagascar with a disjunct population in Chad. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found on fresh and alkali water bodies preferably with floating vegetation. |

It is distinguished by its pale blue bill, the dark smudge on its neck and its green speculum which is very noticeable in flight but can be seen well in photo 1. | |||
