The Chestnut-winged Starling is found in lowland primary forest in West and Central Africa. It is usually to be seen in the canopy or at the forest edge.

The chestnut wing is most conspicuous in flight but can just be seen on the bird to the rear in photo 2. The male has a glossy purple-black head while the female has grey streaks on the head and throat.
