Ethiopia According to Birdlife International, the Common Fiscal is distributed in much of Africa south of the Sahara but Clements and the IOC split this into Common Fiscal L. collaris in the south and Northern Fiscal L. humeralis in the north. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in open country with trees at between 900 and 3,000 metres in Ethiopia. A member of the shrike family, the white scapulars form a V across the back. The mantle is black and the rump is grey. |

Photo 4 shows an immature passing into adult plumage. Immatures are browner with fine barring above and
below.
It hunts mainly from a perch swooping down on its invertebrate or small vertebrate prey which it sometimes stores by impaling the body on a thorn or spike. |
