Alleghedi Plain, Ethiopia The Chestnut-backed Sparrow-lark is distributed in suitable habitat in Africa south of the Sahara. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in open grassland and semi-arid savanna favouring bare ground as in these photos. |

The male has rich chestnut back and wings, a boldly patterned black and white head and black underparts with a white vent. The female, seen here in photo 3, is duller with black mottling. It feeds mainly on grass seeds and forages on the ground. | |||
