Cassin's Spinetail is distributed in Tropical Africa from Sierra Leone to western Uganda. It is found above the rainforest feeding high during the day and lower down at dawn and dusk.

Cassin's Spinetailed Swift, Auntutu Forest, Ghana, May 2011 - click for larger image It has long and distinctly notched wings and a very short tail. It has a greyish throat and upper breast and a white lower breast and belly with faint greyish streaks. Its flight is fluttering and bat-like.

It is often found in the same flock as the much smaller Sabine's Spinetail Rhaphidura sabini.
