The Blue-bellied Roller is distributed in a band south of the Sahara from Senegal to South Sudan. There is a distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in woodland and wooded savanna where it forages from a perch high on a tree and flies down to take its prey of grasshoppers, beetles, termites, earthworms, small snakes, etc. on the ground.

Its call is a harsh, rasping trill.
