Alleghedi Plains, Ethiopia The Black-headed Lapwing is distributed in a broad band across Africa south of the Sahara. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in dry areas and grassland up to 1,900 metres where it feeds on insects mainly at night. During the day it rests in the shade. It has a pointed black crest, a red bill with black tip, white forehead and throat and a black stripe down the breast. |
