Alleghedi Plain, Ethiopia The Black-chested Snake-eagle is distributed in much of Africa south and east of the Sahara. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in wooded savanna, bush country and even desert. |

It looks quite similar to Short-toed Eagle C. gallicus but with a darker hood and a whiter belly.
It feeds mainly on snakes which it hunts either from a perch or while soaring. |
