The Abyssinian Slaty-flycatcher is endemic to Ethiopia and Eritrea where it is found in woodland and forest edge at between 1,800 and 3,200 metres. See the distribution map at Birdlife International.

It is a grey-brown flycatcher with a distinctive yellow eye and a grey bill with black tip.
