England July 2008 The Spotted Cranefly is distributed throughout the British Isles and it is frequently found in gardens and allotments. It lays its eggs in the soil and the larvae, known as leatherjackets, feed on roots and tubers of potatoes, brassicas, etc., so it is not too welcome in some areas. It is attracted by light so can be found indoors or in porches usually from May to September. There is some additional information on UK Safari. |
