Banded Demoiselle Calopteryx splendens | ||||
Monks Eleigh, Suffolk,
England The Banded Demoiselle is found in England and Wales mainly south of a line from Blackpool to the Wash. Its normal habitat is slow-moving streams, rivers and canals with muddy bottoms and adjoining meadows. The male in these photos was photographed in my garden which is about 200 metres from the nearest stream. They are in flight from June to August. |
||||
It is a large and attractive
damselfly with the male having a dark band in the centre of the
wings which is lacking in the female. The male is metallic
blue-green while the female is metallic green. |
