The Yellow-faced Parrotlet is endemic to Peru and is distributed in a small area of the Upper Marañon Valley. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in desert scrub and dry, deciduous forest at between 600 and 2,000 metres.

It is similar to Pacific Parrotlet F. coelestis but with bright yellow on the face and throat. This attractive parrot has been a target of the caged bird trade and with a declining population in a restricted area is classified as Vulnerable.
