Colombia and Ecuador April 2012 The Tourmaline Sunangel is distributed in all three cordilleras of the Colombian Andes and on the eastern slopes of the Andes in Ecuador. It is found in the interior of mossy cloudforest and elfin forest, often near bamboo, and mainly between 1,500 and 3,400 metres. The male is dark shining green above with a glittering green forehead ("frontlet"). The gorget is dark purple on the chin merging into a glittering rosy-pink. The female lacks the green frontlet and the gorget with the throat being whitish with greenish specks. |
