The Seven-colored Tanager is a Brazilian endemic found in remnants of the Atlantic Rain Forest of north-east Brazil. It is classified by Birdlife International as Endangered because it has an extremely small range which is declining through loss of habitat. It is also targeted for the caged bird trade.

Seven-coloured Tanager, Murici, Alagoas, Brazil, March 2004 - click for larger image It is a spectacular bird even though I'm not quite sure that it has seven colours. The bill is quite heavy for a Tangara. The rather scruffy individual in the 5th photo is probably an immature.

There is an excellent page by Birdlife International here.
