Azapa Valley, Chile February 2007 The Oasis Hummingbird is distributed west of the Andes in Peru and the extreme north of Chile. It is found in oases, gardens and dry grasslands. |

The male, seen here in photos 1 to 3, has a long,
decurved bill and a long, forked tail. It is green above with a cinnamon
rump. The gorget is purple-red with blue sides when visible as in photo 3
and there is a small white spot behind the eye. |

There is a distribution map on xeno-canto. This shows a disjunct population in central Chile not mentioned in either HBW or Jaramillo & Burke and a less widespread distribution in northern Chile. |
