The Moriche Oriole is found in eastern Colombia, Ecuador and Peru as well as south east Venezuela, the Guianas and Brazil north of the Amazon.

As its name implies, it has a strong association with Moriche palms (Mauritia flexuosa) where it nests, suspending its basket nest from a palm frond. Away from the nest it is found at forest borders and in swampy areas.

It is black with the crown, shoulders, rump and thighs yellow.

There are illustrations in Ridgely & Tudor,, Volume 1, Plate 22; Hilty & Brown, Plate 45; and Ridgely & Greenfield, Plate 95.
