The Large-headed Flatbill is distributed in disjunct areas of South America.

It is found in the undergrowth of rainforest and is closely associated with bamboo.

It is often solitary and will perch motionless for a long time before sallying to capture insects from leaves or twigs.

It is dark-olive above with two ochraceous wing-bars. It has a yellowish supercilium and eye-ring.
