Gould's Jewelfront is distributed mainly in the central and western parts of the Amazon Basin normally below 400 metres but in the eastern Andes foothills it can be found at up to 1,400 metres. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in the understorey of humid forest and is often close to water.

Gould's Brilliant, Aconabikh reserve, San Martin, Peru, September 2018 - click for larger image It is mainly green with a contrasting rufous breast band. It also has a rufous tail and the male has a small purplish-blue forehead which can be difficult to see.
