Ecuador November 2019 The Golden-collared Honeycreeper is distributed in the Andes from central Colombia through Ecuador to Peru. See the distribution map at xeno-canto. It is found in the canopy and borders of forest at between 650 and 2,000 metres. |

There are two sub-species. The nominate sub-species is found on the eastern slopes of the Andes and can be seen in photo 4. The sub-species I. p. aureinucha is found on the western slopes in southern Colombia and north-west Ecuador. The male in this sub-species has a deeper golden collar, more buff on the flanks and a noticeably longer bill as can be seen in photos 1 and 2. | |||

The female, seen here in photo 3 is very different being generally a dull olive-green with an inconspicuous collar. | |||
