The Cordilleran Canastero is distributed from central Peru to the south of Argentina and Chile. It is found at up to 4,600 metres in the north of its range to sea-level in the south and favours grassland a rocky scrub types of habitat. 
Cordilleran Canastero, Lauca N.P., Chile, February 2007 - click for larger image It is brown above with some grey on the head while below is paler with some dull streaks on the breast. The tail is brown with rufous edging to each tail feather.
