Rio Blanco, Caldas, Colombia April 2012 The Brown-banded Antpitta is endemic to a small area in the Central Andes of Colombia. It is found on the ground and lower storey of montane and cloud forest at between 1,800 and 3,140 metres. |

It had not been seen between 1942 and 1994 and was classified as Endangered and continued to be so
classified when Volume 8 of the Handbook of World Birds was published in 2003. Recently, the species has been discovered in more sites in the Central Andes and Birdlife International now classifies it as Vulnerable.
Its distinctive song has helped in the identification of new sites for the species. It is a series of 3 pure whistles with each consecutive note being higher-pitched. |
