November 2016

The Brown Lemur is endemic to the north and east of Madagascar. See the distribution map at IUCN. It is found in a variety of forest habitats and the threats to its habitat lead it to be classified as Near Threatened.

They live in troops of 5 to 12 including several males and several females with no apparent hierarchy. They are active both during the day and during the night and feed on leaves, buds, shoots, flowers and fruits.

These two photos were taken at Analamazaotra (Perinet) in the east while the video was taken at Ankarafantsika in the north-west.

For more information see the ARKive page.
