Boumalne du Dades, Morocco
April 2014

The Pharaoh Eagle-owl is distributed in Africa north of the Sahara and in the Middle East. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in rocky mountain slopes in desert and semi-desert.

It used to be treated as a sub-species of Eurasian Eagle-owl B. bubo but it is smaller, paler in colour with less prominent ear-tufts and a different voice.
