The Yellow-billed Chough is distributed in the mountains of southern Europe, northern Africa, Turkey, Iran and into central China. It is only rarely found below 1500 metres. See the distribution map at xeno-canto.

Alpine Chough, Delphi, Greece, November 2002 - click for larger image It is a medium sized crow some 15% larger than a Jackdaw. It looks similar to Red-billed Chough P. pyrrhocorax but has a shorter and yellow bill, broader wings with only about 4 separated primaries (Red-billed Chough has 5 to 6), and a longer tail.

It is also more gregarious and collects in large flocks. The flock in photo 3 at Delphi had over 200 members.
