The White-bellied Kingfisher is distributed in tropical Africa from Mauritania and Gambia to Uganda. It is found at small forest streams where it perches low and flies fast over the water.

White-bellied Kingfisher, Ankasa, Ghana, May 2011 - click for larger image At 13cms it is very small and the same size as the African Malachite Kingfisher C. cristatus from which it differs in having a white throat and belly and with more chestnut above the eye.
