The Madagascar Wood-rail is distributed in undisturbed rain forest and deciduous dry forest up to 1,500 metres in Madagascar. See the distribution map at Birdlife International.

It forages for insects and seeds on the forest floor and tends to be secretive and elusive. Hence the rather poor photo
