The Ethiopian Bushcrow is distributed in a small area of southern Ethiopia. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. Because of this restricted area it is classified as Endangered. Its distribution appears to be dictated by the unique climate pocket here described as "cooler, dryer and more seasonal than the surrounding area" which also makes the bird susceptible to climate change.

Ethiopian Bushcrow, Yabello, Ethiopia, January 2016 - click for larger image A member of the crow family one of its interesting features as noted by HBW is the fact that the "bare skin around eye "inflatable" so that eye narrows to horizontal slit, and surrounding feathers and bristles move to expose oblong patch of pinkish skin behind eye." You can see this phenomenon by comparing photos 1 and 2 with photo 3.
