Coquerel's Coua is endemic to Madagascar where it is distributed in the west of the island. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in both dry and humid forest with limited undergrowth.

It looks like a smaller version of Giant Coua C. gigas. It forages mainly on the forest floor where it feeds on insects, spiders and berries.
